Nairobi, Kenya — October 1, 2025 – Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) and Parallel South have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the Green Sports Initiative, a pioneering program designed to integrate environmental sustainability into the African sports ecosystem. The partnership will debut with the official launch of the Legends Track & Field Series on November 6, 2025, taking place at the Sankara Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in Nairobi and coinciding with the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports Awards.

The Legends Track & Field Series is a groundbreaking continental sports initiative dedicated to celebrating Africa’s greatest champions while creating a platform for the next generation of athletes. Through world-class competitions hosted annually across Nigeria, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Sierra Leone, the Series offers elite competition opportunities on African soil while showcasing the continent’s vibrancy, culture, and talent to the world. Together, these events will boost tourism, nurture talent, and position Africa as a premier hub for global athletics.

The Legends anchoring the Series are some of Africa’s most iconic names:

  • Mary Onyali (Nigeria) – Olympic medalist, African sprint queen.

  • Samuel Matete (Zambia) – World champion & African record holder, 400m hurdles.

  • Eunice Barber (Sierra Leone/France) – World champion in the heptathlon and long jump.

  • Fabrice Zango (Burkina Faso) – Olympic medalist, world champion, and triple jump world record holder.

  • Innocent Egbunike (Nigeria/USA) – Former African record holder across men’s sprints and Olympic medalist.

Together, these legends bring legacy, mentorship, and vision to inspire a new era of African athletics.

Green Sports Initiative Partnership
The Green Sports Initiative will pilot sustainability best-practices at the Nairobi launch and across the Legends Series calendar. Focus areas include:

  • Renewable energy solutions for stadiums and venues to reduce carbon footprints.

  • Eliminating single-use plastics through recycling and waste-to-energy programs.

  • Promoting eco-friendly transport and sustainable catering at events.

  • Implementing green-powered advertising and technology (billboards and digital displays).

  • Fan and community education campaigns to engage athletes, officials, and supporters in sustainability.

“As one of Africa’s most powerful platforms, sport must lead the way in environmental responsibility,” said Leslie Koroma Sr., Founder & CEO of ASVG. “This partnership with Parallel South ensures that we not only celebrate athletic excellence but also create a legacy of sustainability for future generations.”

Parallel South brings technical expertise in carbon reduction strategies, ecosystem restoration, and green technology, aligning the initiative with national climate commitments across the continent.

Nairobi Launch & Attendance
The November 6 launch will bring together delegations from Nigeria, Zambia, Burkina Faso, and Sierra Leone, alongside partners, sponsors, investors, sports ministers, and international media. The event will present the Series’ vision, calendar, commercial opportunities, and sustainability roadmap.

ASVG invites sponsors, partners, and investors to join this historic Pan-African initiative that marries elite athletics with environmental stewardship.
