BENGUELA, ANGOLA | 9 October 2026
African motorsport is preparing for a continental showcase as drivers from across the continent gather in Benguela, Angola, for the Karting Africa Pan-African Championship Showrun, scheduled for 10–11 October at Santos Peras Circuit.
The event brings together drivers representing different national motorsport communities, providing a platform for competition, experience-sharing and greater visibility for karting across Africa.A field of 39 drivers from 14 African countries.
Beyond the racing, the gathering highlights the importance of developing opportunities for young drivers and strengthening the pathways that connect grassroots motorsport to higher levels of competition.
Among the stories emerging ahead of the event are those of Ghanaian junior drivers Ezra Stephens and Khloé Kusi-Asomah, who are making their first international outing in Angola after being selected through a national process. Their participation illustrates the importance of giving emerging talent opportunities to gain experience beyond their home countries.
The initiative also reflects a broader ambition to grow African motorsport through collaboration, driver development and stronger connections between national motorsport communities.
Preparations shared by teams and supporters have highlighted the work involved in bringing drivers, equipment and teams together for the continental gathering. Media coverage and digital storytelling are also helping to introduce the initiative to audiences beyond the circuit.
As the drivers prepare to take to the track, Benguela offers an opportunity to look beyond the race itself and consider what a more connected African karting ecosystem could make possible for the next generation.
For African motorsport, the challenge is not only to produce competitive drivers, but also to build the visibility, structures and opportunities that enable talent to progress.
RI Sports will follow the event and the wider story of African karting development.
