The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced the introduction of training tacticians on football science in the ongoing first-ever CAF A coaching course is being conducted at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Officially commenced on October 16, 2023, and expected to end on March 29, 2024, the CAF A coaching course is being held under the tutelage of coaches Francis Kimanzi and Salim Ali. The two-week football science module has been integrated into the coursework, enabling coaches to learn on crucial aspects including physiology, human anatomy, fitness, nutrition, and periodization.
“Recognizing the role football science plays in the modernization of the sport and the optimization of player and team performance, CAF A emphasizes equipping coaches with this knowledge by integrating physiological, psychological, and tactical elements,” stated FKF in a statement.
According to the federation, the approach aims to streamline player development, mitigate injury risks, and elevate overall team performance which will be instrumental for coaches as they directly influence the design, location, method, and content of training sessions to manage their teams effectively.
Being the first ever CAF A coaching course in Kenya, the training will take six months, and the inclusion of Sports Science will play a significant role in the modernization of the sport and the enhancement of player and team performance.
The course was also made a success in a landmark partnership with the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA), aimed at elevating the coaching standards and preparing members for life after their playing careers.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with FKF for the inaugural CAF A Coaching course launch, which has drawn in 25 highly respected coaches from across the nation, many of whom have donned the national jersey as players. We extend our sincere appreciation to FKF for this incredible opportunity, one that promises to significantly elevate the standards of football coaching in our country,” noted KEFWA president James Situma.
Situma further highlighted that since the majority of the participants are former football players, they will be beneficial in not only raising the football levels in Kenya but also bolstering careers for life after football once they graduate from the six-month program.
“The overwhelming presence of former players in this coaching initiative is a testament to its significance. We firmly believe that these participants will benefit immensely from the comprehensive training, skills, and experience offered throughout the six-month program,” added Situma.
