Boniface Muchiri’s story begins in Bungoma, where his prodigious talent was first noticed by Peter Lunani, a sports teacher at St. Mary’s Kibabii Boys High School. At the tender age of 16, Muchiri was scouted, setting the wheels of his remarkable journey in motion.
Muchiri’s professional journey began when he was signed by Nzoia Sugar FC, under the leadership of the visionary Yappets Ngisa Mokua. His time at Sudi Stadium in the National Super League (NSL) was nothing short of a revelation. Paired with talents like Mark Bikokwa and Masita ‘Master’ Mesuta, who now play alongside him at Ulinzi Stars FC, Muchiri honed his skills and left an indelible mark on the league.
“Muchiri is a very disciplined, committed player and very honest. When you meet him outside the field, you cannot even know he is a star,” recalls Evans Kadenge, who managed him at Nzoia Sugar FC. This rare blend of talent and humility endeared him to both fans and fellow players.
Returning to His Roots: A Dedicated Student
Boniface Muchiri’s journey isn’t just about success; it’s also about giving back and staying grounded. At Kibabii Boys High School, he is remembered not only as a remarkable footballer but also as a dedicated student who never forgot his origins.
Martin Wechoya Ogulo, a sports coach and games teacher at Kibabii Boys, fondly remembers Muchiri’s generosity: “I remember in 2019 he sacrificed his small salary then and bought the school team 30 pairs of boots,” notes Wechoya.
After a successful stint at Sudi Stadium, Muchiri’s journey led him to Awendo Green Stadium, where he donned the jersey of Sony Sugar FC before eventually joining Tusker F.C.
It was at Tusker where Muchiri encountered greatness in the form of his teammates, including experienced players like James Situma, Brian Mandela, Humphrey Mieno, Brian Osumba, Clifford Alwanga, Allan Wanga, and Danson Kago, to name just a few. These luminaries of Kenyan football became mentors and catalysts for Muchiri’s growth.
“When I joined Tusker F.C., I was still young, but I was so lucky to share the dressing room at that time with a lot of great players,” Muchiri reminisces. His experiences at Tusker helped him evolve as a player and as a person.
With his heroic performances, the attacker got an opportunity to go to the United States of America, where his trials with the fourth division side, Reno 1868, did not go as planned. He had to return to Tusker Fc.

Making The Bold Decision: Combining Football and Military Service
However, life had a different plan for Boniface Muchiri. When an opportunity arose to join Ulinzi Stars F.C., the team representing the defensive forces of Kenya, it meant making a pivotal decision. The choice was clear – he would embrace a dual life as a footballer and a soldier.
“In life, if you want to grow, you have to make a bold move because some of us are responsible for taking care of our families, and I am not going to play football forever,” Muchiri explains with candor. His decision to serve his country while pursuing his football dreams is a testament to his character and resilience.
“It is an obvious fact that our football is not yet at top levels where we can term it an investment. I also understand that this game is a short career and therefore decided to take the challenge, join the military, and see what life can offer on the other side,” says Muchiri.
After successfully completing his military service, Muchiri returned to Ulinzi Stars FC for the 2022-2023 Kenyan Premier League season. His comeback has been nothing short of spectacular, and he was promoted to the role of the second vice-captain of the team for the 2023-2024 KPL season.
His journey from a KPL champion at Tusker F.C. to taking on leadership responsibilities at Ulinzi Stars FC is a testament to his discipline, hard work, and the guidance he has received from his friends, family, and the power of prayer, especially from his beloved mother.
“My mother understands me better than anybody else. I have grown seeing her struggle to make ends meet for us through her talent as a hairdresser, and I am praying that God will continue blessing me so that I give her the best care,” Muchiri attests.
